Biowinery Orbelus

The idea for Orbelus was born between two friendly families, almost jokingly in the late 90s, in the midst of a conversation about the deserted vineyards in the Struma Valley. Gradually the contours of the idea began to become clearer and the more they talked, the more they knew it was something worth taking on. They wanted to showcase the identity of the Struma Valley and the unique variety, the Shiroka Melnishka loza.

The Biowinery Orbelus project started back in 2000 with the purchase of 72 dka of vineyards in the village of Kapatovo, and subsequently expanded to 250 acres of vineyards in the neighboring villages of Marikostinovo, Kromidovo and Harsovo. The vineyards are biocertified according to Bulgarian and European legislation and the architecture of the cellar itself makes it extremely interesting with its barrel shape. The equipment is modern and located on several levels, which allows to use gravity in certain oenological manipulations, making the work process more sparing of the raw material. Local grape varieties such as Shiroka and Ranna Melnishka loza, Sandanski Misket, as well as international varieties such as Assyrtiko, Primitivo, Marcelan, etc. are grown.
