The museum was founded in 1966 as a museum collection. In 2006 it was transformed into a Historical Museum by a decision of the Municipal Council. Until recently housed in the “Brothers Miladinov” Community Centre, since May 2022 it has been in its new home, located in Petrich City Park.
The museum has a modern industrial design, amidst a parkland setting that spills over the green facades. Innovative technology with holograms, 3D re-enactments and kiosks, a relaxation area and film viewing are available to visitors.
With the techniques of modern museology, the most valuable artefacts are presented with many interactive and technological solutions and the exhibitions are arranged in three main areas: Archaeology, History and Ethnography.
