Abdyika

The Abdyika vineyard in the village of Dolno Spanchevo with an area of 120 dka was established in 2005 to produce unique wines from local Bulgarian varieties in the valley of the river Struma. Abdiyka is the ancient name of the slope on which the vineyards are located. With roots in Persian and Latin the name has the meaning of "God's servant". Loosely translated it means "fruit of the gods" and is indicative that the terroir is ideal for vineyards. The French word terroir sums up the group of factors that are important for the qualities of the grapes, such as: geological, topological, soil, microclimatic, number of days of sunshine, mineral composition and many others.

The typical for the region Shiroka Melnishka loza and Ranna Melnishka loza (Melnik 55), Ruen, but also varieties such as Chenin Blanc and Assyrtiko, which are not very common in Bulgaria, are grown. Ten people work in the vineyards, performing manual operations that require precision and individual attention to each vine. The winery is located on the vineyard itself and has modern equipment. The wine is limited edition and mainly for export.
