The Stob Pyramids are a natural phenomenon in the western part of the Rila Mountains, declared a natural landmark in 1964. They are landforms 6 to 12 metres high, often with “stone caps” carved into old quaternary overlays and coloured in shades of yellow to red. The area is home to a diverse flora including sub-Mediterranean plants, trees and shrubs. The area is shrouded in local legends relating to wedding rituals and the ancient city of Stobi, also described in historical documents. The walk to the pyramids offers picturesque views and is suitable for visiting in all seasons.
