Vitosha is the first park in Bulgaria and on the Balkan Peninsula. It was declared one year after the London definition of national parks. In 1936, under the influence of the Union for the Protection of Nature – the initiator of its designation, a decree was drawn up and promulgated – a law for the protection of native nature, according to which the park was no longer national, but national.

At the same time, until 1952, a special Regulation for the management and administration of the Vitosha National Park and its protected areas was in force.
